Art Studio Organized w alternative work space delima solution.

This is my makeshift art studio. The delima: my old art studio is now a teenager's bedroom. I remarried and gained two teenagers and we needed a forth bedroom. Where do I now paint?

I'm sure this problem of 'not enough home space' is a common one. For some, it may be a need for an office, or just simply a space to create.

This studio was more my vision when I built this house. Lol... It will happen after we are closer to being empty nesters, hee...

Because, my old studio is now a youth's bedroom. This is what my old digs looks like now. It has been converted to a teen's room:

Yes, it is currently a bedroom. However, I am not complaining, having more kids around is adding so much flavor into my life. I will be sad when we become empty nesters. Youth brings such vibrance with them!

While trying to figure out where to paint, I was using my music room for awhile. It looked something like this:

One Room Converted into Two Rooms with two very different purposes:

I am adding this picture to blog, because a friend wanted to see the two rooms together in one snapshot. This is the two sides in one picture. ;-)

This 'combo room' will be my studio for awhile, sigh. It means I cannot be as messy as I want to be. I can take an easel outside; which is something I will be doing more of now. Maybe it will stretch me as an artist. ;-) The "combo studio" solution will be for about 3 years; so it is not worth making an addition onto my home.

I needed to purchase a book shelf and reuse my "paint holding baskets" to house my art supplies.

I think the shelf was around $70.00 at Wallmart. I did not want to spend too much money on anything that will have paint on it. I think my wooden stool had came from Wallmart too.

My trusty and inexpensive fan:

A fan runs constantly, drying oil paintings. They need to be dry before I have them scanned to make giclees (high quality copies); I number and sign them. It is much more affordable than the "original painting." They also must be dry before a gallery will hang them.

This is not the dream art studio, but it will make a good substitute solution for awhile. We will call it a surrogate studio for the time being. ;-)

Last night we had an award night at Atlanta's gallery. For those that followed "Whimsical Affection", it won an award:

We spent some of the check on our dinner after the ceremony was over.

"Should We Go In", won in Feburary. The subjects were my neighbor's adorable little boys. I thought putting them in the door of a kid's fantasy world would be a fun project. ;-)

"(Reality) An Ambrosial Metaphysical or Mortal Universe" won an Honorable Mention award:

I think the event was in late January. This is a painting of a dream I had. I do most of my work that way; I try to capture the dreams that I have. I keep a pen by my bed, so that I will not forget them when they come. To me, they are inspired works and I feel compelled to share. ;-)

 Here I am receiving a check from the President of the Art Association:

"Dreams" won the Cellar 13 contest in January. We had pictures of it hanging, but I cannot seem to locate the photos. Hee, he...They may have been deleted off the camera by someone who will remain ;0) un-named:

Stages of Development for Whimsical Affection, a Painting of two Horses. Art, How to paint process.

Many of my facebook and blog friends enjoy seeing the stages of paintings and have asked me to post some work "in progress" again. It has been awhile since I posted any stages, so I guess I have been slacking, lol. Here are the stages of a painting I did in February.
The title is Whimsical Affection. It is a whimsical painting of two horses who have love for one another. Of course, I had to "Lisa-ize it." Lol, that is how some gallery managers describe my work. ;-)

Whimsical Affection

The finished work is at The Atlanta Artist Center gallery right now. It is oil and acrylic, 48 X 36 inches, on canvas with  2 inch stretched sides that are painted as a continuation of the painting onto all four sides. I believe this gives my work a more 3D appearance in "real life," photos do not capture texture or the 3D aspects of  original works. ;-)

 Stage One, covering the canvas with color. Oil and acrylic are the medium's used in this painting.

  Stage Five, adding one of my signatures, expressive eyes. I believe the eyes are the window into the spirit of all living things.

Putting on the horse manes, giving the painting life! I also added another signature; I love to use the splatter and drip techniques, seen on the horse's mane on the left. (This picture shows only one color, the remaining colors, or coats of paint on the mane can be seen in the last picture).

 Finished painting! All final touches done.
